Desmopressin is a natural hormone produced in the pituitary gland. This hormone is important for many functions including blood flow, blood pressure, kidney function, and regulating how the body uses water. In a dose-dependent manner, desmopressin increases cyclic adenosine monophosphate in renal tubule cells which increases water permeability resulting in decreased urine volume and increased urine osmolality
